This vibrant illustration features the beautiful Art Nouveau style of the Whitechapel Gallery, East London. Part of the gallery building once stood as the Passmore Edwards Library. The Victorian Philanthropist John Passmore Edwards established a foundation which funded a number of public libraries and educational institutions around London, particularly for the benefit of the working classes. John Passmore Edwards can be seen to the right hand side of the illustration, helping people up the social ladder.
